Chemical Peels

For the past several years, we have seen a return to "natural products." Glycolic acid is derived from natural sugar cane and is one of several alpha-hydroxy acids. It has been added to numerous cosmetic creams and lotions for skin rejuvenation. This specifically includes removal of surface dead cells, lightening or eliminating age spots, smoothing and refining the skin surface and skin lines, and adding a glow to the skin surface. The creams work over a period of several months.

We can speed the desired results by the direct application of a higher concentration of glycolic acid for a few minutes, followed by rapid neutralization. A mild pinkness results with virtually no down time for the patient. Thus, the "lunchtime peel." We normally suggest an initial series of six peels every two to three weeks followed by maintenance peels every four to eight weeks. In addition, alphahydroxy acid cleansers, creams, and of course sunscreens will help to maintain skin in good health.

VITALIZE Peels

For a more gentle peel, the VITALIZE Peel brings the benefits of alpha-hydroxy acids to provide a strong, but less irritating formulation. This combination of mild acids is safe for all skin types and has been clinically proven to help pigmentation problems fade and stimulate collagen production. There is little downtime following this peel as the skin may look like a mild windburn for a few days followed by slight flaking. Avoiding sun exposure, and topical products containing alpha-hydroxy acid, retinols, or vitamin C after the treatment is recommended until the peeling process is complete. After the first treatment there is noticeable improvement in the skin’s texture and tone, lessening the fine lines and giving a healthier, more youthful appearance.
